Cash for questions

Welcome to www.cashforquestions.org, started 02 June 2004. Send us your questions.

This website section has been set up to question modern myths and to expose contradictions in public policy. If your question is selected, we will accept cash to pay for Google Ads - if we ever get a payment mechanism sorted. But here's our first question:

Q01/04: Who gagged the pollution report?

The Guardian ran a piece Anger at 'gag' on pollution report

The suppression of damaging statistics on large increases in greenhouse gas emissions from transport was condemned by MPs and environment groups yesterday, when they demanded the independence of the Office of National Statistics (ONS) should be safeguarded...
The Guardian yesterday revealed how the information was removed from the report after the intervention of the Department of Transport (DoT).
The report says "the DoT denied that ministers had been involved". Was it Sir Humphrey? Or a political advisor? Why did they do it?
